About the Founder
A lifelong inquiry, not a sudden revelation.
Dan Jahn initiated, authored, and continues to shape ORIA — its originator, initial architect, and author, and a participant in its future development. He is an influence on the work, not an authority over reality or truth.
ORIA did not arrive as a revelation. It grew, over a long time, out of one person’s attention to a few questions that would not leave him alone: what is real, how we know anything, why every being seems to matter, and how to live honestly inside a world that is still changing. This is the person those questions belonged to — offered as context for how ORIA came to be, and nothing more.
The questions that shaped a life
Dan Jahn was born in Sri Lanka to parents serving in the Peace Corps and spent part of his childhood in Europe. He describes a lifelong pull toward two subjects that most people keep in separate rooms: religion and physics — the search for meaning and the description of what is. He studied religion, politics, and international relations at universities in the United States and the United Kingdom, and later completed a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Modern Mythology at the University of Oxford. The thread through all of it was the same: how human beings make sense of existence, and how to do so honestly.
A working life spent among belief and leadership
He has worked as an executive leadership coach and has travelled to roughly sixty-eight countries. Over many years he studied leadership, cultures, and belief systems — including recurring patterns among influential figures across roughly four and a half thousand years of recorded history — and developed from it a separate framework of his own, the Iconic Leadership Matrix. Exposure on that scale does not settle anything; but it is where the impulse behind ORIA was formed: a sense that beneath the world’s many traditions there might be one honest orientation worth naming plainly.
Why make it in the open
ORIA is built in public, with its whole development on view and its founder’s limits stated first, precisely so that it cannot quietly become one man’s scripture. Under ORIA’s own principles the founder is bound before anyone else: no person owns truth, and his positions are arguments, held to the same evidence-over-authority standard as anyone’s. He currently exercises working editorial control because the project is still one person’s work in progress — a phase, not an entitlement. The stated intention is that ORIA come to belong to its participants and to humanity rather than to any individual.
What he does and does not claim
ORIA claims synthesis, study, and effort — never revelation. Its founder is not a prophet, not an infallible authority, not a supernatural intermediary, not an object of worship, not the owner of reality or truth, and not permanently entitled to unilateral control. His biography is context, never proof: it grants no standing to represent any nation or culture, and no professional achievement is evidence that ORIA is true.
