ORIA is a developing religious and philosophical project about living honestly within a reality that is continually arising. Its permanent classification is an open question (oq-0004).
The name
ORIA is not an acronym. The name is connected to the Latin oriri — to arise, emerge, or come into being — a working conceptual connection, not an invented ancient meaning. ORIA is pronounced OR-ee-uh, /ˈɔːr.i.ə/. Orianism (the tradition) and Orianist (a person who identifies with it) are secondary, cautious terms.
The central idea
The working position is that reality is an ongoing process of arising rather than a finished artifact — forming, dissolving, and giving rise to new forms, relationships, awareness, and possibility. The Oria Way is the practice of living consciously within that unfolding. This is a foundational working position established for the project’s development, not a ratified doctrine, and not a scientific theory: “arising” does not imply a conscious cosmos, guaranteed progress, or moral improvement, and it does not deny loss — dissolution is half of every arising.
Religion, philosophy, or inquiry?
ORIA draws on three distinct registers — science (the observable and testable), philosophy (meaning, reason, and values), and spirituality (lived experience, awe, purpose, and our place within existence) — and is careful never to let one impersonate another. Whether ORIA is finally best described as a religion, a philosophy, a spiritual path, a movement, or a defined combination is deliberately left open (oq-0004). The present working description is “a developing religious and philosophical project.”
How ORIA holds its claims
ORIA holds every conclusion in proportion to the evidence for it, distinguishes belief from proof and metaphor from mechanism, and marks what is established, what is interpretation, and what is unresolved. It treats truth as something no person, institution, founder, scripture, or tradition owns. Ideas may evolve; reality remains primary.
What stage ORIA is at
ORIA is developing. It is not established, ancient, global, safe, governed, or canonical, and it does not claim to represent the world. It has no membership, community, clergy, practices, or ceremonies; its draft Constitution is unadopted and governs nothing. Who is behind it
ORIA was founded and authored by Dan Jahn — its originator, initial architect, and author, and a participant in its future development. He is an influence on the work, not an authority over reality or truth: not a prophet, not infallible, not an object of worship, and not permanently entitled to unilateral control. The work was developed with substantial, disclosed AI assistance, which holds no authority and is not a cofounder.
